Saturn VUE Green
Line
The Vue Green Line Hybrid is the gasoline-electric hybrid
version of Saturn’s compact SUV and the first SUV hybrid
from General Motors. Powered by a new, more affordable
hybrid system, the Vue Green Line is expected to deliver a
20-percent improvement in fuel economy with EPA estimated of
27 mpg city and 32 mpg highway. It is a simple, flexible
hybrid design that provides additional power from the
motor/generator during acceleration and allows increased
fuel economy through engine shut-off at idle, fuel cut-off
during deceleration and the capability to capture electrical
energy through regenerative braking.
The Green Line is the fourth Vue model. The standard Vue is
powered by a 2.2-liter Ecotec four-cylinder and is
front-wheel drive. Vues with a V6 engine come in FWD and AWD
configurations. The sporty Vue Red Line tops the range. The
Green Line is FWD only.
The package produces 170 horsepower and 164 pound-feet of
torque, with another 115 lb-ft of torque from the electric
motor. Official EPA fuel economy numbers aren't in yet, but
GM estimates 27 mpg city and 32 mpg highway, with a combined
figure of 29 mpg. Although that's a solid 20-percent gain
over the standard Vue's 25 mpg, it's well below the fuel
mileage of the Ford Escape/Mercury Mariner hybrids (36
city/31 highway).
2008 Second Generation Saturn VUE Greenline
The standard engine will be a 164 hp(122 kW) 2.4 liter
Ecotec with variable valve timing. Optional engines include
a 215 hp (260 kW) 3.5 liter V6 and a 250 hp (186 kW) 3.6
liter DOHC V6.
Production moved to Ramos Arizpe, Mexico, where the
Chevrolet HHR is produced.
The Vue Green Line hybrid will debut with the same mild
hybrid system as the current model. A full hybrid model
featuring GM's two mode system will then be introduced. This
model will feature front wheel drive. After this system is
introduced, GM will release a plug-in hybrid version of the
vehicle. This will make it the first plug in hybrid marketed
by an OEM automaker.
